September 2023
News Highlights:
Ride Calendar Updates – All rides will begin at 9 am in September with the exception of the September 2nd Tour de Valley, which has a recommended start time of 8 am. This ride is hosted by the Augusta Cycling Club. See below for more info about this ride.
Next Happy Hour – On September 7, from 4:30-6:30pm, join us for the next CBC Happy Hour at one of our sponsors — Random Row Brewing Company in Cville. Discounts available for members. See the calendar for details.
Growing Rider Group at Spring Hill – A core group of C-paced riders (12-13 mph average) has been meeting regularly for the Tuesday/Thursday morning rides from Spring Hill, and would like to encourage others to join them. This group may modify the published routes to keep the distance to 20-30 miles, and emphasizes that no rider will be dropped. The regular B-paced riders, who “regroup often,” look forward to others joining them as well. Like to hear more? Contact us at info@charlottesvillebicycleclub.org.
Tour de Valley – The Augusta Cycling Club is hosting the 35th anniversary of the Tour de Valley this Saturday, September 2. Wear your club jersey and join us there! Check out the comments on the ride calendar to see who is coming.
Tour de Greene – Here is a reminder from the Tour de Greene organizers. “It’s getting to be that time of year again and time to start thinking about the 17th annual Tour de Greene. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, October 14th, 2023. Early registration ends at 11:59pm on Sunday, October 1st and final registration closes at 11:59pm on Thursday, October 12th. Register early to avoid the price increase! This ride is fully supported with stocked Rest Stops, on course SAG support and lunch provided afterwards. More info can be found at Tour de Greene 2023 (17th Annual) Online Registration (bikereg.com).”
Road Construction – VDOT advises that Catterton Road (Rt. 667) will be closed to vehicles from 8/1/23 through 9/27/23 due to bridge repair. There is no pedestrian bridge at this site. Details are available at 511virginia.org. VDOT still has a planned road closure of Watts Passage until 11/20/23. There is no pedestrian bridge at this site. Details are available at 511virginia.org.
Website Updates – In case you have not noticed, you can now sort the route tables in the Route Library! All three of the route tables (Paved Routes, Spring Hill Routes (Paved), and Gravel Routes) can be sorted by route name, distance and amount of climbing. The Paved Routes and Gravel Routes tables can also be sorted by the starting point. And as far as ride comments, you now have the ability to be notified when others comment on a ride that you have commented on. You don’t have to keep checking the website any more to see if there are any new comments!
Please welcome this month’s newest club members: Horace Scruggs, Hannah Carlson, William Adamsen, Michael Elswick.
