May 2024
News Highlights:
There are lots of great opportunities this month for riding, hanging out with your fellow CBC’ers, and supporting great causes, so please read on…
Ride Calendar Update – All scheduled morning club rides will begin at 9:00 am in May.
Bike Month! – May brings our favorite time of year… National Bike Month! Check out the announcement from the City of Charlottesville here. For a list of all the activities happening in the greater Charlottesville area and opportunities to volunteer, see the Bike Month event calendar.
Ride to Defeat ALS – The Ride to Defeat ALS: Blue Ridge is this Saturday, May 4, 2024. It starts at Pro Re Nata in Crozet, and offers paved route options of 25KM, 50KM and 100KM as well as gravel route options of 40KM and 60KM. You can find out more information for riding or volunteering here. And you can save $10 on the registration cost by using the code CBC10.
Ride/Lunch at Maybelle’s – On May 16, come ride the beautiful roads of Greene County and stick around for post-ride lunch at Maybelle’s Market in Dyke, VA. Two ride distances will be offered. Check the calendar for details.
Happy Hour and Support for Community Bikes – Also on May 16, starting at 4:30PM at sponsor Random Row Brewing Co., CBC is partnering with Nest Realty to raise funds for Charlottesville Community Bikes, a local “nonprofit 501(c)3 bicycle shop that promotes environmentally-sound transportation, recycles bicycles, and makes cycling accessible.” Come enjoy drinks on Nest Realty in exchange for a donation to a great cause! Community Bikes will have a table set up with information about the organization, opportunities for active involvement, and a link or QR code to donate. To encourage your support, CBC leadership is contributing personal funds to match donations from CBC members to Community Bikes, up to an aggregate of $750. So come out to Random Row, support a great cycling cause, and double your contribution through this matching grant! No club dues will be used for this match.
Tour de Madison – The popular and beautiful Tour de Madison, which has run every year since 1988 (except for 2020) is Saturday May 18. Multiple routes and distances are offered. Check the calendar for details. Registration is required. Online registration closes May 12. Limited on-site registration will be available.Â
Summer Picnic – Back by popular demand, CBC will return to Maybelle’s Market in Dyke for the club’s third annual summer picnic on July 13, 2024. Routes will be available for all classes of riders, with the picnic to follow underneath Maybelle’s covered pavilion. All members and their families are invited. Details, including ride times and routes, will be announced soon.
Emergency Contact Information – Please take a minute to review the information for the emergency contact you designated in your member profile. You can review the data and make any necessary changes by logging in, then clicking on “Emergency Contact Information” in the drop-down menu under Members at the top of the Home Page. Thanks in advance for taking care of this important task.
Jersey Distribution – For those of you who ordered CBC jerseys and other apparel back in March, your kit will be available for pickup prior to the scheduled rides on May 2, May 4, and May 11. Check the calendar for details. If you know you won’t be able to make any of these days, please contact us. Â
Please welcome this month’s newest club members – Colin Derdeyn, Roberto Regoli, and Jon Halem.
