May 2023

News Highlights:

Maybelle’s Picnic Ride May 4 –  Come ride some of our region’s most scenic terrain followed by a picnic lunch with friends. On May 4, the Thursday Spring Hill ride will originate from Maybelle’s Market in Dyke.  The 33-mile ride will start at 10:00A.  Lunch orders can be placed in advance online here, and will be ready when we return (set the pick-up time for when you expect to finish the ride).  Alternatively, you can order on site.  Please park in the gravel lot across the street from the store.  Ride details are available on the calendar here.

Ride Calendar updates – Saturday and Sunday rides start at 9 AM in May.  Spring Hill rides start at 10 AM for the first week, AND THEN move to a 9 AM start beginning on May 9.  We have another beginner’s ride led by Caroline Bertrand on May 10 (thank you again, Caroline!).  Find the rides that suit your interests, and join the fun!

Summer Picnic – Save the date!  CBC will host its annual summer picnic July 15, 2023.  Rides will be available for all classes of riders, with the picnic to follow.  All members and their families are invited.  Details, including place, time, and routes will be announced soon.

Support Community Bikes – In connection with this past weekend’s Charlottesville Bike Fest Criterium and the Jefferson Cup Road Race, a silent auction is being held to help Charlottesville’s Community Bikes get #morekidsonbikes in their Free Kids’ Bike Program, Youth Mountain Biking Program in partnership with the Boys & Girls Club, and Job-Training Program for historically underrepresented youth. The silent auction is currently live and ends on May 6.  The link to the auction can be found here.

Watts Passage road closure – A section of Watts Passage remains closed due to bridge work.  This statement is from 511virginia.org: “On Rt. 600 (Watts Passage) in the County of Albemarle at Watts Farm Rd; Rt. 700E/W (Albemarle County), motorists can expect potential delays in this area from 02/16/23 at 4:46 PM until 07/31/23 at 5:00 PM due to bridge work.
