March 2025

Ride Calendar Updates – Sick of winter?  Ready to see fields of daffodils rather than banks of snow and ice?  Spring is on the horizon, along with warmer temps and earlier start times.  Beginning March 1, all rides will commence at 10:00AM.  Please arrive at the start locations in plenty of time to get you and your bikes ready to roll by the departure time.   Sunday gravel and weekend coffee rides continue this month.  Check out the calendar and get your spring riding season underway.

Bike Club Book Club – CBC has started a member book club dubbed the “Book Peddlers”.  Come join your fellow cyclists for a discussion of Road to Valor: A True Story of WWII Italy, the Nazis, and the Cyclist Who Inspired a Nation” by Aili and Andres McConnon.   We will meet Sunday March 23rd at 4 pm at member Debi Strong’s home.  Feel free to bring something to share:  1619 Inglewood Dr, Charlottesville VA 22901.

Jersey Sale is Live â€“ CBC just launched its third jersey and apparel sale.  Click here to access Voler’s online store for details on the available custom CBC bike gear and to place your order.  The store closes at midnight on Tuesday, March 11.  The February 26 email from CBC has all the details.

Roanoke Getaway Weekend – After months of planning, CBC recently announced details for its first weekend getaway for members and their partners (including non-riders) in Roanoke, on June 7-8, 2025.  Great riding, social opportunities, and activities for non-riders will be available.  The Hampton Inn & Suites Roanoke-Downtown will serve as the event hub.  We have arranged a block of 15 rooms with discounted rates of $159 for Saturday, June 7.  A limited number of discounted rooms have also been reserved for folks who want to go early and stay the night on Friday, June 6.  After the blocks are filled, other rooms may be added at the preferred rate if available at the time of booking.  The block closes on May 6, 2025, but secure your room early to make sure you get a spot. To book at the preferred rate, click HERE, or call hotel reception at 540.400.6000 and ask for the Charlottesville Bicycle Club Weekend Getaway group rate.  On site parking is $8/day.  The hotel will provide a conference room for secure bike storage.  There is no registration fee for this event.  Participants will be responsible for their own costs.  If you book a room, please let us know here.  See the calendar for more details.

Active Mobility Summit and Three Notch’d Trail – The fifth annual Charlottesville/Ablemarle Active Mobility Summit, to be held on March 6-7, 2025, will be the unofficial kickoff of the 18-month study process to determine the best route for the Three Notch’d Trail, a proposed paved multi-use path connecting Charlottesville and the Blue Ridge Tunnel in Afton.  Come learn about the process and how you can provide input to this important project.  Participation is free but registration is required.

BRC Bike Swap – Blue Ridge Cyclery is holding its ever-popular “Velo Swap” at the downtown location on March 8&9, 2025.  Items to be sold can be dropped off at that location March 5-7.  Details are here.

Stillhouse Creek Road is Still Closed – The bridge over Stillhouse Creek in Albemarle County south of Batesville is still closed.  The newest open date published by VDOT is March 31, 2025.  We will keep you updated on the status of the bridge.  We have added comments to the club routes affected by this closure.

Do you have an idea for another club social event?  Is there some activity or local event you would like to do with some of your fellow club members?  We would love to add something like this to the club calendar (with enough notice that we can add it to our monthly newsletter).  Contact us with the details.

Please welcome this month’s newest club members: Karen Brown, Tom Leback, and Robert Holdsworth.

Our thanks to CBC members who renewed this past month: Kim Biasiolli, Bruce Walker, Rick Hudson, David Duani, Candace Heisey, Steve Andrus, William Rockwell, Donald Kimpel, Johanna Claasen, William Hill, Dennis Scannell, Minot Clement, Douglass May, Tim Nissen, and Eric Schaffer.
