March 2024
There are lots of good things to report this month, so please read on…
Ride Calendar Update – All scheduled morning club rides will begin at 10 am in March.
Beginner Rides – Join Caroline for two beginner’s rides this month – Wednesday, March 13 and Thursday, March 28. Check out the calendar for the details on this ride on Sugar Hollow Road! Bring a friend if you know someone who would like these rides.
“First Thursday” Continues – As noted previously, for 2024 CBC is modifying the weekday ride schedule due to the year-long closing of the bridge on Frays Mill Road, which affected dozens of previously scheduled Tuesday/Thursday rides out of Spring Hill Baptist Church (as well as other CBC routes). Tuesday rides will continue to originate from SHBC (please check carefully for updated routes), while Thursday rides will start from different locations throughout the C’ville area.
In connection with this schedule change CBC began its “First Thursday” coffee rides out of Crozet on Thursday, February 1. Post-ride, we enjoyed a recovery beverage and pastry with friends at Grit Coffee. Check the calendar for details of the March 7 ride. Hint – it’s a new route!
Gravel Rides – We have three Sunday gravel rides on the schedule in March! Check out the calendar for details and come out and join us.
CPR Class Report – A capacity crowd attended the first aid session hosted by CBC on February 7. Instructor Frank Lawson guided CBC members through basic first aid, CPR techniques, use of automated external defibrillator (AED) devices, and the Heimlich maneuver. Everyone had the opportunity to practice on adult- and child-sized mannequins, and left feeling much better prepared for confronting a future emergency. CBC sends a huge thank you to Frank for his guidance and generosity.
Potluck report – We had about 30 participants for our second annual winter potluck in mid-February. It was great to see the other halves of some of the members, and converse over some great food!
Jersey Sale – We have opened the store for our online sale of custom designed jerseys and other bike apparel with our vendor Voler. Click here to access Voler’s online store for details on the available custom CBC bike wear and to place your order. The store closes at midnight on Sunday, March 10. Your February 26 email has more details.
CBC RWGPS club account – A member recently asked us for the regional maps of ride starting points that used to be on the website. We have added new start points since those maps were published and we had no way to update the maps. However, you can find something similar in the CBC’s RWGPS club account. One of the newer options on the menu when you are in the club’s RWGPS account is ‘Route Map View’. When you select that option you’ll see a map with numbers on it that represent how many club routes start from that location. You can drill down to see more detail.
Website Improvements – We have recently added a section under the Members only area of the website for an archive of the monthly newsletters beginning in January of 2023. Check it out!
Please welcome this month’s newest member – Tim Nissen.
