August 2023
News Highlights:
CBC Summer Picnic Recap – Almost 50 CBC’ers came out to Dyke, Virginia to celebrate CBC’s second annual summer picnic on July 15. Riders of all classes enjoyed one of three different routes through incredibly scenic terrain in Greene and northwest Albemarle Counties. Afterwards, the club hosted lunch provided by Maybelle’s Market underneath their blissfully shaded pavilion. Thanks to all who attended and helped make “CBC” stand for the Charlottesville Bicycle Community. Given the growth in attendance and the positive feedback, we look forward holding this event again next year!
Next Happy Hour – On September 7, from 4:30-6:30pm, join us for the next CBC Happy Hour at one of our sponsors — Random Row Brewing Company in Cville. Discounts available for members. See the calendar for details.
Road Construction – VDOT advises that sections of Blackwells Hollow Road (Rt. 810) will be closed to vehicles until 8/22/23 due to bridge repair, but passenger/bicyclist bridges have been installed to get around the construction. Please exercise caution if you are biking in this area. Also, VDOT has extended the planned road closure of Watts Passage until 11/20/23. There is no pedestrian bridge at this site. Details are available at 511virginia.org.
Website Updates – We’ve made some technical changes to the website which affect its look, but functionality should be unchanged. If you encounter any problems, please let us know at admin@charlottesvillebicycleclub.org.
Jersey update – We have sold all of our extra club jerseys. However, one of our members has a classic women’s small jersey that she is interested in selling. The jersey has not been worn, and she is offering it for the great price of $40. If you are interested, email us at contact.us@charlottesvillebicycleclub.org and we will put you in touch with her.Â
Please welcome this month’s newest club members: Paul Cox, Chase Patterson, Robert Crinks, Quinton Beckham, Elaina Mangione, Andrew Wright, Samantha Jones, Tim Tessier, Kevin Madigan, Catherine Utah, Tim Williamson, John Ruppenthal, and Michael Abbott.
