As noted in the January 2024 Newsletter, VDOT is closing the bridge on Frays Mill Road (at the bottom of the “Pyrenees” near Advance Mills Road) for the entire year.  This closure affects more than two-thirds of the routes used on the Tuesday/Thursday club rides out of Spring Hill Baptist Church (SHBC), as well as some routes from other start locations.

Due to the substantial impact the bridge construction will have on the club’s planned routes from SHBC, CBC has decided to modify the weekday ride calendar for the remainder of the year.  Each Tuesday, rides will continue from SHBC, modified where necessary to detour around the Frays Mill bridge.  On Thursdays, CBC will host group rides from other locations throughout the Charlottesville area.   These changes will go into effect starting the week of January 15, 2024.

For affected routes that will be included on the 2024 calendar, CBC has updated route pages and posted new navigation files with detours around the Frays Mill bridge in CBC’s Ride With GPS Club Account.  Especially for regular Spring Hill riders, please make sure you download and navigate using the correct, updated GPS files, cue sheets, and maps. 

During this year of bridge construction, we hope these schedule changes will both preserve the long-standing tradition of weekday rides from SHBC as well as expand options for club members.  In particular, one new feature is the start of “First Thursday” coffee rides out of Crozet, where members can socialize post-ride at Grit Coffee.  Check the Ride Calendar for details of all the upcoming weekday rides.
