In conjunction with Cville Bike Month, CBC invites interested cyclists to join the club for a group ride, followed by a safety class conducted by a League of American Bicyclist certified instructor.
This special event will begin with a pleasant, relatively flat, mostly open ride that starts by heading east past Blenheim then making a loop in western Fluvanna County.
Following the ride, CBC member Peter Aaron will conduct a class that will teach you some skills to handle your bike in unexpected situations. Peter says, “even if you have been riding for many years, we can all learn new tricks.” So whether you are a novice or an experienced rider, you will be challenged to see how your skills stand up. Stop and start with confidence, look over your shoulder and hold your line, traverse a slalom course, do a rock dodge, hop a hazard in the road, learn a fast stop, learn to ride slowly/develop balance, learn some facts about the geometry of your bike. So come for the ride from Walton Middle School, bring a lunch and a chair, and stay for the class at 12:30 pm.
Non-members: In advance of the ride/safety class, please review our information page for visitors, then sign the club’s required waiver form by clicking HERE. Be sure to check out the club’s classification system to make sure this ride is right for you. Plan to arrive in plenty of time to get your bike and yourself ready to roll. The group riders will depart the parking lot promptly at 9:00A. These preparation steps will help ensure you have a great time. If you have a question, post a comment below.

For details on how group rides are categorized, check out the Ride Classification guidelines.
All riders are required to have a helmet; a taillight, Road ID and a rear-view mirror is strongly recommended. You are also expected to have adequate fluids and a road-worthy bicycle in good repair. Many rides, but not all, will include the opportunity to stop at a store to replenish supplies.
You should be prepared to fix a flat tire and perform other minor repairs on the roadside. If you are new to cycling and are not comfortable with these procedures, don’t let that stop you. However, you might want to talk to a more experienced member before the ride so the group is prepared to help if necessary.
The club considers safety to be our very highest priority. Please review the information on the Safety Page before you join us for a ride.
We hope that you will find this site helpful; your questions and comments are welcomed.
Start times are based on seasonal averages. Because of the inability to ensure everyone is informed of a last-minute change, scheduled rides will not change based on predicted weather and temperature. Also, club rides generally will not show as “canceled” on the calendar. All riders have their personal thresholds for temperature, wind, and moisture, and are expected to use their best judgment about whether to ride on a given day. CBC encourages all members to exercise caution. If in doubt, please use the comment section on the ride calendar page to communicate with other potentially interested riders.
