This route starts with a sharp climb up the backside of Peacock Hill, then heads out to Batesville, the Crossroads Store, and Dudley Mountain Rd. It is intended as a replacement for the Fontaine Rider’s Choice routes, but in reverse and avoiding riding out of and back into Charlottesville.

For details on how group rides are categorized, check out the Ride Classification guidelines.
All riders are required to have a helmet; a taillight, Road ID and a rear-view mirror is strongly recommended. You are also expected to have adequate fluids and a road-worthy bicycle in good repair. Many rides, but not all, will include the opportunity to stop at a store to replenish supplies.
You should be prepared to fix a flat tire and perform other minor repairs on the roadside. If you are new to cycling and are not comfortable with these procedures, don’t let that stop you. However, you might want to talk to a more experienced member before the ride so the group is prepared to help if necessary.
The club considers safety to be our very highest priority. Please review the information on the Safety Page before you join us for a ride.
We hope that you will find this site helpful; your questions and comments are welcomed.
Start times are based on seasonal averages. Because of the inability to ensure everyone is informed of a last-minute change, scheduled rides will not change based on predicted weather and temperature. Also, club rides generally will not show as “canceled” on the calendar. All riders have their personal thresholds for temperature, wind, and moisture, and are expected to use their best judgment about whether to ride on a given day. CBC encourages all members to exercise caution. If in doubt, please use the comment section on the ride calendar page to communicate with other potentially interested riders.
Two options, please post to our Facebook Group or contact us.
FYI I will ride my bike from home to the start of the ride at Murray Elementary a little before 11. I will probably shorten the length of the ride. If anyone wants to join me your company would be welcome. Bill Roberts
Too cold and more important is too windy at ride start. Will pass
Would like to ride. If windy conditions push the experience into “type-2 fun”, I could be persuaded to ride a shorter variation.
I will ride if anyone else shows up. Bill
Will, if the forecast stands, we will not be riding. The temps by themselves aren’t bad, but we don’t like the wind chill and those gusts.
As of now, the wind forecast has deteriorated further… 16mph steady and +40mph gusts…
Most of the route is either into the wind or full crosswinds… Very little tailwind.
Hopefully the weather will be more favorable in a couple weeks.
Take care!
Hi Connie, who does the “we” refer to in your statement “we will not be riding”? Is it we as in you and Chris or does the we refer to the CBC club ? Thanks bill
Hi Bill. The “we” in my statement refers to me and Chris.
Current forecast is for reasonable temps, but steady 14mph winds with gusts 30-50mph. Are folks still thinking of riding this Saturday or are most thinking to skip due to the wind/gusts?
