Charlottesville Bicycle Club is pleased to announce that the longstanding Tuesday/Thursday morning group road rides from Spring Hill Baptist Church are now officially sanctioned club events. Going forward, CBC members will enjoy their club benefits – including navigation features offered through CBC’s Ride With GPS Club Account, and insurance coverage – while participating on these rides. Sponsoring the Spring Hill rides furthers the club’s desire to serve cyclists of all interests and abilities in the Charlottesville area.
Over the past few years, the Tuesday/Thursday Spring Hill rides have become one of the best-attended, regularly held group road cycling events in the area. This has been due to the unfailing support of long-time organizer (and CBC member), Iván Henao. Iván started the Spring Hill tradition more than twelve years ago, when he and late UVa professor John Whitaker (1933 – 2016) decided to meet at the church for rides in the middle of the week. Other cyclists, many from the original CBC, soon began joining them.
After many years of scheduling, messaging, and maintaining the email list of the Spring Hill group, Iván has decided to “retire” from his leadership duties. Said Iván, “I thank CBC for taking over the organization of the Spring Hill rides. This is a good time for me to pass the baton. And I will be very happy just showing up to ride with friends.”
CBC extends its great appreciation for Iván’s years of selfless support for the Spring Hill rides. We look forward to continuing to see him on these weekday rides.

Cyclists are strongly encouraged to state their intention to participate by clicking the link to the ride on the calendar and leaving a comment (please also include your ride class). Based on attendance, Spring Hill riders typically break into two groups, with most riders averaging a C- or B-pace. All are welcome!
