Bacon Hollow

Distance: 24 / 33 / 40 miles
Climbing: 70 / 70 / 75 feet per mile

Description: This modestly hilly ride covers much of the Earlysville area. The medium and long routes include a nice climb up Bacon Hollow, which is famous for its moonshine operations during the Prohibition era (a local winery produces a wine called Bacon Hollow Revenuers’ Select White).

Stores: Mile 16 / 25 / 25 (Dyke)

Alerts:  The out and back section on the medium and long routes up Bacon Hollow Road (mile 17 to 23) is well-known for dogs that sometimes get out in the road. Stay alert.

Due to a bridge rehabilitation project at the Route 627 (Bacon Hollow Road) bridge over the Roach River, this route should not be used beginning July 6. VDOT anticipates completion of this project by September 11, 2026.

Dyke Road between Bacon Hollow Road and Evergreen Church Road may be used to detour around the construction.
