February 2025
News Highlights:
Gravel, Coffee and Lunch Rides – We are continuing the weekly Sunday gravel rides this month. Check out the calendar for these rides and the monthly weekend coffee rides. We also have a Thursday ride from Maybelle’s with lunch afterwards. Come out and join the dusty or caffeinated fun!
Winter Potluck – In what has quickly become a club tradition, CBC will host its annual winter potluck on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 5 PM at the Baldwin Center in North Garden. Bring a dish and join the festivities. See the calendar for details. Thanks to those of you that have RSVP’ed. We’re looking forward to seeing you, as we haven’t been able to get out on the bike much this winter.
Bike Club Book Club – Are you interested in joining a book club of fellow bike club members that would meet every one or two months? If so, please join Dominique on Sunday, February 16 at 3 pm at the Wegmans dining area (100 Wegmans Way, Charlottesville) for another “interest” meeting.  We plan on picking a book and the first meeting location and date. Come join us for a post ride wind down and fun discussion.
Jersey Sale – CBC will hold another new jersey and apparel sale this year! We are currently working with the vendor Voler to finalize terms and pricing. Be on the lookout for an announcement with details soon. We expect to open the sales window late February/early March.
New Routes – We have added two new routes of note to our already robust route library. Many club members have enjoyed riding from Middlebrook on the Shenandoah Fall Foliage Festival rides, so we have created a new 39 mile route on some of those roads as well as some new roads. The new 39 mile Middlebrook – Swoope route is on the ride calendar as an A / B ride for Saturday, February 1. The other new route starts in Arrington and does not require you to cross US29. Some of the roads are also new to the club. The 38 mile Shipman – Norwood route is on the ride calendar as an A / B ride for Saturday, March 8.
Stillhouse Creek Road is Still Closed – The bridge over Stillhouse Creek in Albemarle County south of Batesville is still closed after VDOT crews discovered damage to one of the abutments that support the bridge deck and superstructure. Stillhouse Creek Road, which climbs up to Crown Orchard, is included on a number of CBC routes. In our view, VDOT’s published anticipated completion date of January 31 will not be met. Though VDOT is currently working on the bridge, as evidenced by the picture below taken on January 24, there is still quite a bit of work to do. We will keep you updated on the status of the bridge. We have added comments to the club routes affected by this closure.
Do you have an idea for another club social event? Is there some activity or local event you would like to do with some of your fellow club members? We would love to add something like this to the club calendar (with enough notice that we can add it to our monthly newsletter).  Contact us with the details.
Please welcome this month’s newest club member: Chris Curtis.
