Summer riding is in full swing. Here’s the latest on what’s happening.
Ride Calendar Updates – It’s HOT this time of year, so always bring plenty of water. A few of our routes do not have stores for resupplying. The start time for all July rides is 8:00AM. As always, please arrive in plenty of time to get your bike and yourself ready to roll out of the parking lot by that time.
RSVP for Summer Picnic – CBC’s fourth annual summer picnic is July 12, 2025. All members and their families are invited. Maybelle’s Market in Dyke will again serve as our host. Three new beautiful routes have been designed for all classes of riders. A free picnic (with mixed sandwiches, cheese/fruit trays, salads, chips, and cookies) under Maybelle’s covered pavilion will follow the ride. Check the calendar for ride and event details. If you plan to attend, RSVP as soon as you can but no later than July 6 so that the club can order the appropriate amount of food. Send an email with the number of adults and children to info@charlottesvillebicycleclub.org.
Roanoke Recap – CBC successfully hosted its first club weekend getaway for members in Roanoke a few weeks ago. Twelve participants enjoyed two days of great riding, group dinners, ice cream, and activities in vibrant downtown Roanoke. Riders climbed up to the star on Mill Mountain (reportedly the world’s largest freestanding illuminated star), rode the ups and downs of Blue Ridge Parkway, relished the views in Catawba Valley, and cruised the Greenway. Afterwards, we checked out the many art galleries and boutique shops, and toured the Taubman and Transportation Museums. Given the positive responses, we hope to plan another weekend event in the future. Many thanks to the Roanoke planning team… Peter Aaron, Susan Cieslinski, Connie Hendy, Mark Stanis, and Todd Stansbury. Special thanks to Mark for multiple scouting trips (along with Aims) to Roanoke, and for his stellar A/V presentation Saturday morning covering the weekend’s routes.

Three Notch’d Trail – Albemarle County is seeking public on the proposed Three Notched Trail. Fill out a survey or explore a mapping tool to highlight areas of interest here. This is a great opportunity to contribute your thoughts towards a potentially very cycling-friendly resource for our area.
Encouraging Group Ride Participation – Plan to join a group ride? Great! Please sign up by logging in, then clicking the “Sign Up for Ride” button on each Ride page linked from the Club’s calendar. This will let your friends know you plan to attend. Plus, members can see who else from the Club plans to be there (the list of signees is not visible by non-members). It only takes a second. If your plans change, you can always “cancel” by clicking the same button.
Cville E-bike Voucher Program – The City of Charlottesville is running a pilot program that offers $1,000 vouchers for qualified e-bikes from participating local dealers to 25 people selected by lottery each quarter. The program is open to any Charlottesville resident 18 years of age or older. Click here for details.
