DESCRIPTION:This modestly hilly ride covers much of the Earlysville area. The medium and long routes include a nice climb up Bacon Hollow\, which is famous for its moonshine operations during the Prohibition era (a local winery produces a wine called Bacon Hollow Revenuers’ Select White). \nStores: Mile 16 / 25 (Dyke) \nAlerts:  The out and back section on the medium (35 mile) route up Bacon Hollow Road (mile 15 ) is well-known for dogs that sometimes get out in the road. DESCRIPTION:In conjunction with Cville Bike Month\, CBC invites interested cyclists to join the club for one of our group rides today\, followed by a safety class conducted by a League of American Bicyclist certified instructor. \nThis special event will begin with a pleasant\, relatively flat\, mostly open ride that starts by heading east past Blenheim then making a loop in western Fluvanna County. \nFollowing the ride\, CBC member Peter Aaron will conduct a class that will teach you some skills to handle your bike in unexpected situations.  Peter says\, “even if you have been riding for many years\, we can all learn new skills.” \n\nWhy not learn techniques to handle situations in a class setting before you encounter them unexpectedly on the road? Join me for a class that will teach you some skills to handle your bike in these situations. I know many of you probably think “ I have been riding for many years\, what can I learn?”  I am a League of American Bicyclist certified instructor\, this is a class worth taking. Even if you are an experienced rider you will be challenged to see how your bike handling skills stand up. \nTraverse a slalom course\, do a rock dodge\, hop a hazard in the road\, learn a fast stop\, learn to ride slowly/develop balance\, learn some facts about the geometry of your bike. SUMMARY:Humpback Rocks - Vesuvius (60\, A / B\, VH)
DESCRIPTION:This is a stunning and quite challenging ride. Starting at the Humpback Rocks Visitors Center at milepost 6 on the Blue Ridge Parkway\, the route heads south on the Parkway\, climbs up to the Raven’s Roost overlook\, then descends from Reed’s Gap down to the Shenandoah Valley at Sherando. A long loop along the borders of a section of the George Washington National Forest takes you to the town of Vesuvius and to a 2.5 mile\, very steep climb back up to the Parkway and north to the starting point.
