DESCRIPTION:Road hazard avoidance techniques\, Bike handling skills\, Parking lot drills for Safe Cycling followed by a ride \nCome for the class at Walton Middle School and stay for a multi-level ride afterward. Please signup below.  If you read the Safety Chat of March 2025 you know why it is important to have these skills. Click the link to go and read it now. \n\nWhy not learn techniques to handle situations in a class setting before you encounter them unexpectedly on the road? Join me for a class that will teach you some skills to handle your bike in these situations. I know many of you probably think “ I have been riding for many years\, what can I learn?”  I am a League of American Bicyclist certified instructor; this is a class worth taking. Even if you are an experienced rider you will be challenged to see how your bike handling skills stand up. \nTraverse a slalom course\, do a rock dodge\, hop a hazard in the road\, learn a fast stop\, learn to ride slowly/develop balance\, learn some facts about the geometry of your bike. Even if you have taken the class before\, practice helps and there will be something new you didn’t do in the previous versions of the class. \nThe class will start at 9 am and the ride will follow the class at 10:30 am. \nThe ride afterward is the 29-Woodridge Western Fluvanna. This route uses Secretaries Road for most of the route as an out and back and can be riders choice of distance by simply turning around. \n.

SUMMARY:Shenandoah Valley - Goshen Pass (59\, A / B\, MH)
DESCRIPTION:A great combination of open and shaded roads with stunning views and one major climb\, this ride takes you through the Shenandoah Valley south and west of Greenville\, VA. The route is the same as the southern section of the Tour de Valley ride held yearly on Labor Day weekend. DESCRIPTION:One of the great favorites in the region\, this ride covers northern Madison County and extends into Culpeper County. There are exceptional views of the rolling countryside and the mountains; a three-quarter mile steep climb at mile 13 and the descent into Etlan present views of Old Rag Mountain from several angles. \nAs an optional out-and-back\, turn left at Etlan Rd. (mile 13.0) and head up a beautiful\, shady valley for 4.5 miles to where the state road ends at the entrance to the Shenandoah National Park (the last 0.8 miles is quite steep).
