SUMMARY:Humpback Rocks - Vesuvius (60\, A / B\, VH)
DESCRIPTION:This is a stunning and quite challenging ride. Starting at the Humpback Rocks Visitors Center at milepost 6 on the Blue Ridge Parkway\, the route heads south on the Parkway\, climbs up to the Raven’s Roost overlook\, then descends from Reed’s Gap down to the Shenandoah Valley at Sherando. A long loop along the borders of a section of the George Washington National Forest takes you to the town of Vesuvius and to a 2.5 mile\, very steep climb back up to the Parkway and north to the starting point. DESCRIPTION:This is a long\, hilly ride through the open rolling terrain of the central Shenandoah Valley. The route heads up the valley from Waynesboro for 10 miles\, then heads west across the valley to Mt. Solon before turning back; the cross-valley segments include a number of long rolling hills. DESCRIPTION:This route is a shorter variation of the 57 mile Afton – Sherando – Waynesboro from the Greenwood Community Center.  It is a challenging\, highly scenic route that begins on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The route climbs for much of the first 10 miles of the Parkway to Raven’s Roost (be sure to stop for the view) and then continues on to Love Gap. It then descends into the Shenandoah Valley to Sherando and on into Waynesboro. DESCRIPTION:From the Crossroads Store\, this modestly hilly ride heads south to Alberene then into eastern Nelson County to the Rockfish area. DESCRIPTION:This ride goes through open and rolling terrain and covers a good portion of eastern Fluvanna County and a bit of western Goochland County. The eastern section is delightfully flat\, then the route descends to the town of Columbia where the Rivanna River joins the James. DESCRIPTION:This ride surveys the Rapidan River – Clark Mountain Rural Historic District\, which includes some of the most beautiful farmland in Orange and southern Culpeper Counties. The route passes through the town of Rapidan\, where there are well-preserved examples of the 19th century Carpenter Gothic style of architecture\, and follows the Rapidan River for some 8 miles of easy riding.
